Midwives are trained healthcare professionals who provide care to women and their families during pregnancy. Midwives have an expertise in supporting women to maintain healthy pregnancies and have optimal births and recoveries during the postpartum period. Midwives provide women with individualized care uniquely suited to their physical, mental, emotional and spiritual well being. Midwives provide personalized care at many levels: family planning, preconception care, pregnancy, labor, birth, postpartum and gynecological care. Midwives are trained to conduct comprehensive physical exams, order laboratory and diagnostics tests as well. Midwives strive to provide extensive health care education and counseling, as well as shared decision making with the women they care for.
